RESULTS FROM THE 2005 US NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
AUGUST 16
2005
Over the past week Jacquelyn has been preparing and competing in
one of the biggest meets of her life. Jacquelyn and her
teammates (Monica, Ashley, and Hilary) traveled to Indianapolis,
Indiana for the 2005 US National Championships.
DAY
ONE:
Jac had a great first day of
competition. She started off on floor and had a bit of a
slip on her 2½ + punch front layout but finished the rest of the
routine strong for an 8.200. She went into her next event
with great confidence and did a great yurchenko full vault for
an 8.783. Uneven bars was her next even which she scored
her highest score ever since being an elite. Her routine
(Shaposnikova,
Pak, Stalder-half; toe-half, Jaeger; double front dismount,
small hop)
scored her a 9.250! Her last event of the night was
balance beam. Most girls don't like to finish on balance
beam because it is one of the easiest events to fall off of, but
that didn't bother Jacquelyn. She hit her routine
(punch
front; standing Arabian; one-arm back handspring to layout;
switch, gainer layout; tuck jump full to back tuck, back pike;
2-1/2 dismount, stuck) and
scored a 9.116 which was the third highest beam score of the
day! Overall she had an all-around score of 35.349 and was
in thirteenth place.
DAY
TWO:
Jacquelyn had an even better day of
competition on the second day improving most of her scores.
Jac started off on vault with improved form from the previous
night which scored her an 8.816. Her next even was the
uneven bars where she had a few form breaks but scored a solid
8.816. Balance beam followed next where she had a
similarly solid routine from the previous night but had a step
on her dismount. Jac still scored a great score of a
9.083. Her last event of the final night of competition
was floor where she had previously made a mistake during
preliminaries. She hit all of her tumbling passes tonight
(2-1/2, punch
layout; double pike; front double full; triple full)
and scored an 8.783, another great
score to finish up the night. Overall she had an
all-around score of 35.832 and was in sixth place!
After averaging her all-around scores
together from preliminaries and finals, Jacquelyn finished in
tenth all-around. Since Jacquelyn finished in the top
twelve, she earned a spot on the senior national team! Jac
also placed fifth on balance beam and uneven bars out of the
senior competition.
Jacquelyn's teammate Hilary also finished in
the top twelve and earned a spot on the senior national team!
Monica placed fourth in the all-around in the junior competition
and also made the junior national team. And with a mishap
on bars, Ashley severely cut her leg during her routine which
made her scratch the entire meet. Ashley was still added
to the national team! Great job CGA!
Congratulations on a great week Jacquelyn.
Your friends, family, and fans are amazed at what you have
